Earth Day 2024 Reflections: The Impact of Regenerative Farming

On a recent team visit to Boschendal, in Franschoek South Africa, our team had the opportunity to spend the day with Boschendal’s team to gain insight and a deeper understanding of the ground-breaking regenerative farming practices being conducted on their farm on a commercial scale.

This was an inspiring visit and this Earth Day, our Anthesis Account Manager, Kyra Pienaar reflects back on the impact it had on her as a horticulturalist, working on our AgriCarbon Programme.

“Visiting Boschendal Farm was an insightful experience that perfectly encapsulated the essence of Earth Day. Being guided around the farm and learning about their regenerative practices felt like uncovering the Earth’s own manual for sustainable living and how farming can become a solution against climate change.

An example herein was the holistic approach of mimicking livestock’s natural behaviour, of instinctively seeking fresh grazing areas. By adopting this approach of frequent movement and species diversity, the grazing land is afforded the opportunity to rejuvenate, and the lifecycles of pathogens are disrupted, negating the need for regular treatment.

This example is one of many with the underlying message: within nature lies the blueprint for farming regeneratively.
